Hurt & Proffitt (H&P) provided consulting services for the evaluation, dam break analysis, hazard potential classification, inundation zone mapping, and Virginia Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (VDCR) certification renewals for two Town of Chatham owned and operated flood control dams for conformance to new VDCR dam safety regulations. This work was completed by H&P as a sub-consultant to Reynolds-Clark Land Development, under RC’s engineering services term contract with the Town. Work for each dam included coordination with VDCR and Town officials; completion of an Operations and Maintenance application update; application for a one year Conditional Permit through VDCR; hydrologic and hydraulic evaluation of dam watershed routing through the reservoir; analysis of various dam break scenarios using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS computer software; hazard potential classification; inundation zone mapping; Emergency Action Plan update; and report preparation, submittal to, and approval by VDCR for certification renewal.
