In early 2008, Hurt & Proffitt prepared design specifications to outline what was needed to fix the Appomattox County High School Baseball field. The field was in poor shape. The outfield was very uneven and it presented a danger to the players. The bleacher area drained into the infield causing it to pond when it rained. As part of the preliminary design, our survey team gathered topographic information on a 25 FT grid to get an accurate representation of the existing conditions. Hurt & Proffitt, met with Mr. Perrow, ACPS Director of Business, to provide information to help the school board see what was required to renovate the baseball field.
Hurt & Proffitt provided the design plans for the completion of the field. We were constrained by the elevation of the existing fence in all but one location where a two-foot hump along the fence line needed to be removed to create a flat playing surface. Making sure that water flowed away from the dugouts and off the field presented another design challenge. Hurt & Proffitt lowered the area around the bleachers so the infield could drain and smoothed the playing surface while providing enough grade to drain the water off of the field.
Hurt & Proffitt provided the irrigation plan, and we coordinated with the Town of Appomattox for the water connection. We also provided a stub for future irrigation of the football field.
